How We Chose Colour for Our Nursery: The Farrelly & Co Edit with Rachel

Choosing paint for a nursery sounds like it should be the easy part of having a baby.

It really is not.

Rachel from Farrelly & Co was recently going through the whole process herself, so this felt like a good time to talk honestly about how she approached the colour scheme for her own nursery, what worked, what she nearly chose, and what she would say to anyone else starting from scratch.

Q: When did you start thinking about the nursery and where did you even begin?

Much later than you'd think! 😂 As we're keeping the gender a surprise, we wanted something that felt gender-neutral but still had a bit of fun and personality.

That became our starting point.

Q: You work with colour every day. Did that make choosing easier or actually harder?

Definitely easier.

We get a front-row seat to what our clients and designers are doing, so you quickly learn what you love and get inspired!

Was there a colour you seriously considered and then talked yourself out of?

About 47 of them 😂

The curse of working in paint is having too many options.

What did you land on, and why those colours?

We chose Trigg on the walls, Tuileries on the woodwork, and a playful wallpaper.

Soft, timeless and gender-neutral with plenty of personality.

Any advice for parents who are completely overwhelmed by the whole thing?

Don't try to finish it all at once.

Ours certainly isn't!

Once the baby arrives and we know the gender, we'll add the final touches. 💛

Thinking about colour for your own nursery or home?

That is exactly what the Farrelly & Co in-home colour consultation is there for.

The consultation gives you a chance to look at the actual light in your rooms, talk through what you want the space to feel like, and land on a palette that makes sense for your home, rather than one saved from Pinterest that looks completely different in real life.
